Entry for Whitewater – CEKR Sabi
The CEKR Sabi is a whitewater paddle for beginner to intermediate paddlers. Robustly constructed but smooth in the water, the Sabi inspires confidence while facilitating the learning of good technique.
Blade and shaft design
The Sabi blade, like that of all CEKR blade designs, delivers stable forward strokes and powerful backstrokes without compromising on smooth sliding strokes. The unique rib system is engineered to create just the right amount of stiffness for good energy transfer while paddling, but it also allows for enough flexibility to absorb rock bashes without transferring the shock to your joints.
The glass shaft is designed to have predictable stiffness and good impact resistance.
Construction
The Sabi blades are injection moulded from a tough nylon material with some glass fill for added stiffness.
The straight shaft is made from thick-wall fibreglass. While it is not the lightest shaft on the market, it is tough and durable, properties much needed by beginner and intermediate paddlers.

Origin of the name
The Sabie River is a technical low volume creek in the Lowveld region of South Africa. It is also the only river where I have ever broken a paddle. My goal in developing this Sabi paddle was to create a whitewater paddle to withstand all the punishment offered by the Sabie River.
Why is it better
The Sabi’s design is high end and its price is affordable. Its performance far exceeds that of other inexpensive whitewater paddle options.
The colours of the blades and shafts have been selected for maximum visibility, without being glaring. This is great from a safety point of view, and also to spot paddles floating down rivers.
