The project is an agreement between Rainbow Kayaks/Dragorossi, the F.I.C.K. (Italian Federation of Canoe and Kayak), the University of Pisa, and the Ministry of Environmental Sports and Health. It aims to provide more than 1,000 kayaks for free to Canoe and Kayak Clubs that will manage promotional activities introducing the sport to primary schools in 2025.
All the kayaks will be moulded from recycled plastic sourced from urban and industrial post-consumption waste. Clubs that successfully carry out these promotional activities will receive a reward of 10 free sit-on-top kayaks from the Italian Federation of Canoe & Kayak and Rainbow Kayaks/Dragorossi.
The blue Sit On Top Easy kayaks from Rainbow Kayaks, made from recycled polyethylene, will be provided for free to all 100 clubs selected for the project. The F.I.C.K. has chosen blue as the colour because it matches the uniforms of Italy’s national sports teams.
We believe this project deserves to win the Sustainability Award because it is a real initiative, with a contract already signed, that will introduce paddle sports to more than 10,000 primary school children. It will provide 1,000 kayaks for free to 100 Canoe Clubs across Italy, and more importantly, all of these kayaks are made from recycled plastic from urban and industrial post-consumption waste.
