The Free Rivers Fund has announced its 2025 grantees, supporting 12 projects dedicated to protecting free-flowing rivers worldwide. This year\u2019s selection includes initiatives from New Zealand to Nepal, featuring kayakers, citizen activists, and environmental advocates. Learn more about the projects and how you can help keep our rivers wild and free!<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This year, the Free Rivers Fund received over 350 applications, with more than 100 meeting the criteria\u2014making this year\u2019s selection process highly competitive. The increasing number of qualified applications highlights the growing need for this type of funding and reinforces efforts to expand the fund for future support. This year, 12 grantees from around the world have been selected, including seven new projects and five previously supported initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Life of the Usumacinta River<\/strong>, Alianza R\u00edos Mayas, M\u00e9xico \/ Guatemala
Protection of the Seta River<\/strong>, \u00c7idhna dhe Kastriot\u00ebt, Albania
Stop Skavica – Save the Drin River<\/strong>, Dibra Activists, Albania

Spanning from Greece to Guatemala and New Zealand to Nepal, these projects include diverse efforts such as legal battles, grassroots activism, and scientific initiatives. The grantees range from kayaking communities and citizen-led movements to Serbian pensioners and a Mapuche women\u2019s collective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
