HIKO PRODUCTION RUNS ON 100% SOLAR POWER

Never using PTFE membranes and switching to PFAS-free DWR was one step. But we didn’t want our work to stop with the materials. So we went further – to how the product itself is made.

In 2026, we installed 180 solar panels with a total capacity of 100 kWp at our own production facility in Czechia. For eight months of the year, they generate enough electricity to cover 100% of our production needs, with approximately 70% coverage for another two months.

Battery storage helps us make greater use of the energy we generate, while surplus electricity is fed back into the grid. Because we manufacture all dry gear in the Czech Republic, this change reaches beyond a single fabric, technology, or product. It reaches every piece of gear that leaves our production. Sustainability isn’t limited to our latest product. It’s part of how we make everything.

Why should it win? 

For us, designing goes beyond the product itself. We can choose better materials, eliminate PFAS, and design products to last longer. But owning our production allows us to go deeper and change how those products are made in the first place. By investing in our own renewable energy, one change reaches every piece of gear we manufacture – today and in the future.

Sustainability isn’t an added feature. It is becoming part of the infrastructure behind everything we make.
