Join Us at the 2024 Paddle Sports Show for an Inspiring Talk by Freya Hoffmeister
Freya Hoffmeister, a true legend in expedition sea kayaking with over 80,000 kilometers traveled, will be speaking at this year’s Paddle Sports Show. Known for her daring adventures around the world, Freya will present her latest journey—the “First Circumnavigation of North America.” Her slideshow, titled “HALFTIME,” will take the audience through her epic voyage, covering the northern route from Seattle to Tuktoyaktuk in Arctic Canada, and the southern route from Seattle to Panama City.
Paddle Sports Show: Freya, you’re joining us at the Paddle Sports Show this year. What is the main message you’ll be sharing with the audience?
Freya Hoffmeister: NEVER START STOPPING – NEVER STOP STARTING. That’s the motto of my First Circumnavigation of North America. You’re never too old to paddle!

Paddle Sports Show: You’ve completed some major sea kayaking expeditions—around Iceland, New Zealand South, Australia, South America, and now North America. What motivates you to take on such extreme challenges?
Freya Hoffmeister: NEVER START STOPPING – NEVER STOP STARTING, or you’ll really start feeling old! 😊 Other people climb higher mountains—I do it horizontally. My islands have grown in numbers and turned into entire continents.

Paddle Sports Show: Tell us more about your current expedition around North America. Where are you now?
Freya Hoffmeister: I’ve started twice from Seattle, and this season I’ve paused my journey in the north at Kugaaruk, Canada, and in the south at Ciudad del Carmen, Mexico. I’ve paddled over 27,800 kilometers, so I’m more than halfway around!
Paddle Sports Show: When do you think you’ll complete the circumnavigation?
Freya Hoffmeister: Maybe in five or six years—maybe longer? Who knows!
Paddle Sports Show: You’ve already written four books about your expeditions. Are you working on the next one? When can we expect it to be published?
Freya Hoffmeister: Yes, I’m continuously writing my diary books as I paddle along. The next volume will be out in summer 2025.
